Kristine’s - French Bistro
Oui, this is a logo I designed for Kristine’s, a French bistro in the heart of Princeton, NJ!
The Goal:
To design a logo that embodies the essence of Kristine’s and help build a strong brand presence. The logo should be: Fresh, Simple, French.
My Design Process:
Research
I began by understanding what Kristine’s meant to the owner, Jack, and why this restaurant is important to him. I interviewed the chefs to grasp what motivated them to work here and what the food represents to them.
Additionally, I reviewed the menu, interior design, and layout to ensure the logo aligns with the restaurant's ambiance.
Brainstorming
I started with sketches on paper to explore initial ideas. This step was crucial to ensure the logo would be versatile for both print and digital applications, such as menus, plates, and other tangible items.
Once I had a solid foundation of sketches, I gathered feedback from the chefs, owner, other employees, and my manager. Their insights helped me refine my ideas and decide on the best direction to pursue.
Digital Iterations
After finalizing the sketches, I transitioned to digital design using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I began with black and white versions to focus on spacing, sizing, and font choices without the distraction of color.
Next, I experimented with various color combinations based on color theory. My aim was to evoke a calming and elegant feeling, reflective of the restaurant’s atmosphere. This is exemplified by the use of navy for the font and oval elements.
I presented five variations of the logo to the team and incorporated their feedback to further refine the designs.
A few of the constraints I had during this time period of the project was making sure I was fitting into the overall restaurant timeline. There were other teams and aspects in motion that relied on a timely logo to move their process forward.
Finalization
The final product is the logo you see today. I saved the logo in different file formats to accommodate various uses. Additionally, I added the files to our digital assets library to ensure they remain organized and easily accessible.
